ROBIN HOOD

“This was a bad idea,” I tell Jonathan. “Bodhi’s going in there, but he doesn’t know what he’s looking for. It’s all locked up too, so even if he gets in undetected, how’s he going to get what we need?”

Letting Jonathan pick my clothes means that I am far more colorful and fashionable than ever before. However, I fail to see how a snug red V-neck sweater and black skinny jeans are going to make me more incognito when my curves stand out from a mile away, even under cover of the moonlit darkness.

Bodhi leans forward in the backseat of my green sedan. “We thought of everything. Connery is with Seven back home, so she’s secured. Jonathan went back to your home and took your car, so we have a getaway vehicle that isn’t Jonathan’s, so as not to incriminate him. Plus, Seven loaned me a book and crayons back here, so I’m covered as far as entertainment goes.”

I roll my eyes at him and sink down in the driver’s seat, the brim of my black baseball hat tilted over my face as much as possible. “We’re going to get caught. We’re going to go to jail!”

Jonathan rests his hand atop my wrist. “We’re parking in the lot just there, not at the pharmacy. Bodhi’s going to walk over and break in. He’ll steal everything he needs and be back out, no problem.”

Bodhi ticks off the points we went over in his flashflood induction into modern security systems. “I’ll need to pass through the door without opening it, so I don’t trigger the alarm. That’s not a problem.” He grimaces. “Well, it’s not a problem if I can do it without fainting. Passing through a solid door requires far more magic than merely unlocking it without a key.”

Jonathan’s brows pinch. “I really need you to not faint inside the pharmacy. We can’t go in there and get you out without alerting the police of what we’re doing.”

Bodhi leans back in his seat. “So, if I faint…”

“You can’t faint,” Jonathan insists. “The whole plan thrives on anonymity.”

“When I faint,” Bodhi continues, “the best way to revive me is splashing water on my face. I assume you people don’t have lavender tonic.”

“You assume right.” Jonathan grabs up a bottle of water he keeps in his car. “But again, we can’t go in there and help you. If you faint, you’re on your own.”

“Glad to hear it. Well, the mission might take longer, then.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Look, I left a dog in charge of my daughter. We’re going in and out, and that’s that. Is it harder for you to pass two people through the door?”

Bodhi perks up. “I thought you’d never ask. Body mass is a factor, so you’d be better to take than Jonathan.”

I tug the brim of my black baseball cap lower over my forehead. “Let’s do this.” I snatch up the bottle of water and exit the car as soon as we park.

My best
